Choose your distance-learning course

Essential Proofreading

The only in-depth self-study course that takes you from beginner to PQB qualified proofreader in one step. Gain the skill, judgement and understanding of the publishing process needed to be a successful professional proofreader. Pay in five monthly instalments, from only £99 for the first payment!

Essential Copy-Editing

Train to work effectively as a copy- editor to prepare manuscripts for publication. You will learn the necessary fundamental skills and theoretical knowledge, then build on these skills to gain the experience to tackle more complex material and challenging editorial tasks.

Creative Copywriting for Publishers

Learn how to connect with potential customers, overcome any doubts they have and win them over. This course comes packed with practical tips, backed up by tried and tested techniques, and will give you all the tools you need for a successful career in copywriting.

When you’ve decided which course is for you, visit the relevant course page and enrol. You will be asked to create a PTC account and will have the option to pay for the course in instalments or in full. Once payment has been processed, you will have immediate access to your course.

The PTC’s e-learning modules are concentrated online courses that focus on specialist topics relevant to a freelancer’s working life. The following have been selected to complement your distance-learning course.

Adobe tools for editors

Acquire all the skills needed to work effectively with PDFs. You’ll edit more efficiently and save valuable time.

Introduction to marketing

Gain an understanding of the function of marketing in the publishing process. You’ll learn what activities are carried out within the marketing department.

A copy-editor’s guide to working with authors

Understand and prepare for the ways in which your relationship with an author will develop and change throughout the lifespan of a project.

Introduction to publishing

An introduction to the departments, roles, functions and processes that make up the UK book and journal publishing industry today.

Contact us

When you have chosen your free e-learning modules, please email us at bookings@publishingtrainingcentre.co.uk with the following information:

• Your full name and PTC account username

• The distance learning course you have enrolled on

• The date this was purchased

• The titles of your selected free e-learning modules

• Confirmation that you want to enrol on Essential Grammar for half-price.

You will be able to access the e-learning modules when we have received the email and processed your request.
