Proofreading, copy-editing, virtual assistance. I also have experience of manuscript preparation prior to submission according to publisher guidelines and have worked on multi-author volumes. Checking and formatting references is a speciality. I can undertake work either on hard copy or on screen (Track Changes or PDFs).
I specialise in proofreading in the social sciences and humanities, primarily although not exclusively, for academics and students whose first language is not English.
Subjects that are of particular interest for proofreading are as follows: Library and information studies, social and economic history, local history, archaeology, business and manufacturing, all areas of hazard, risk and resilience (including security, health, food, floods, landslides and volcanoes), geography, politics and international relations, education, travel and tourism, walking (over twenty years of experience in devising walk routes, leading group walks and walking intensively throughout the UK) cycling, wildlife (particulary birdwatching), flora and fauna, gardening, cookery, handicrafts (particularly crocheting and cross-stitch), folk music, theatre, Northern England (I spent nine years working for the local regional development agency and have a great deal of interest in local economic affairs and tourism). I read widely and would also be interested in fiction, biography and memoir.
