Created in collaboration with major UK publishing houses, it offers a comprehensive introduction to the key publishing skills of copy-editing and proofreading and will set you up perfectly for a successful editorial career.
What you will learn
Under the guidance of editorial expert, Caroline Drake you will learn how to:
- Use the key skills of copy-editing and proofreading for various types of content, on screen and on paper
- Understand how different methods of working impact the modern editorial workflow
- Appreciate how the roles of copy-editor and proofreader fit within today's publishing process
About the tutor
Caroline Drake has worked on a wide range of academic books, journals and illustrated trade titles during her extensive in-house career. Caroline was trained at Blackwell and Cambridge University Press, where, as copy-editorial manager, she was responsible for training copy-editors and proofreaders for 15 years. She updated Butcher’s Copy-editing, with a colleague, for the fourth edition.
Now freelance, Caroline enjoys helping authors to get things right, first time. She has created and taught courses for an impressive variety of clients, including publishers, educational organisations, the SfEP and the reporters of the Scottish Parliament.

Please bring your own laptop with Microsoft Word (2010 or later) and Adobe Reader (XI or DC) installed and ready to use. If you don’t have your own laptop, let us know when you book and we can arrange to provide one for you.
